Support for Renzi’s Democratic Party comes mainly from old age pensioners while young Italians intend to vote for the Five Star Movement.
A recent TECNE poll revealed that 47.5% of people aged between 18-29 intend to vote for M5S in the upcoming European elections, almost double the support shown for the PD (25.2%) by the same age group.
36.9% of 30-44 year olds will vote for M5S with just 24.1% expressing a preference for the PD while in the 45-64 age bracket, support for M5S and PD is more evenly balanced (27.8% and 28.3% respectively).
Total support revealed by the polls has PD in first place with 28.9% and M5S second with 27.4%. This is due to the huge disparity in preference of people he’s over 64 with 34.7% supporting PD and just 8.1% M5S.
This poll clearly demonstrates that despite Renzi’s best efforts to appear ‘new’ and ‘different’, with his denim and his tweeting, he does not appeal to young people.
